Blame Cannada

So close

To quote the great Russell Casse from one of my favorite films (Independence Day):

“I been sayin’ it!”

“I’ve been sayin’ it for 10 *dang* years. Ain’t I been sayin’ it? Huh? Yeah, I’ve been sayin’ it.”

North Carolina is winning the 2016 national championship. Go ahead and take that information to Vegas.

Well there you have it, college basketball fans.

Was that enough madness for you?

If Northern Iowa buzzer beaters and Middle Tennessee beatdowns didn’t get you going, I don’t know what will. If that Wisconsin shot to beat Xavier didn’t get you off your couch, you might want to check your pulse.

You almost got us, CBS!

You had the perfect plan. There was information we, the viewers, wanted, and you were going to take your sweet time (two hours) giving it to us.

I’m talking, of course, about the annual NCAA selection show, which was supposed to last from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The right champion

Colonial Life Arena was about as loud as it could get without the Gamecocks actually being there last Saturday night.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock in the Class AAAA state championship final between Byrnes and Irmo, the fans, the coaches and the players let out a loud roar symbolizing several years of hard work.

I wish somebody had given me a talking to when I was going into ninth grade. It would have saved me a lot of heartache, scrambling and indecision.

At Byrnes High School, that’s exactly what football coach Brian Lane is doing for incoming freshmen.

Dark places

Exactly seven days ago, I was in a very dark place as a sports fan.

What you have to realize before moving forward with this column is that I don’t claim very many sports teams. I love watching sports, but there are very few teams, maybe just one, that I follow with great devotion.

The WE in team

"What position do you play for North Carolina?”

That’s the sarcastic question I was recently asked when I referred to my beloved Tar Heels as “we.”

This is a topic of great debate in the sports community.

Should fans refer to the team they pull for as we?

Convoluted caucus

If you think this caucus stuff is moronic, you’re not alone.

Aside from the fact that no one cares about what happens in Iowa except during an election year, the actual voting process is absurd.

This is my favorite time of the year for sports, y’all.

College basketball is heating up, the Super Bowl is on its way and the NBA is starting to get interesting.

But, as anybody who reads this column knows, college hoops is my first love.
