Blame Cannada

Sometimes craigslist purchases aren’t meant to work out.
A few months ago, I bought a riding lawn mower that I now realize has been cursed. No matter how much time, effort or new parts are poured into this thing, it’s only ever going to cause grief.
This past Saturday, I thought I’d reached the light at the end of the tunnel.

Taking the plunge

There’s nothing more American than a good, old-fashioned dunking booth.

Where else can you pair one of our nation’s favorite sports with the satisfaction of seeing someone you know get dropped into four feet of water continuously?

Where else can you watch the mayor heckle and be heckled, simply for the pleasure of bystanders?

Life in the neighborhood

Our society is weird.

We don’t see what’s right in front of our faces because we’re consumed in our lives inside our own bubble. Innovations designed to help us connect have done just the opposite. To put it simply: We miss the forest for the trees.

Between my dislike for DIY projects and my wife’s love of home improvement television, something’s got to give.

Every so often, you find yourself in a situation where you have to take a step back and ask, “What in the world am I doing?”

For me, one of those moments came during “game point” of a pickup basketball game at Victor Park last Sunday.

Welcome to the jungle

As of right now, I’m “that guy” in our neighborhood.

You know, the guy who still hasn’t mowed his grass several weeks into spring. I’m sure every neighborhood has this type of person, but I promise I’m not doing it on purpose.

My lawn isn’t typical. It’s rather large, but more than that, it has an inordinate amount of hills.

Next year

As college basketball comes to a close, I thought I’d offer a few parting shots and some closure on the season that was.

For those of you who were hoping for the best Final Four possible, you’ve got it. With the exception of Michigan State - Kentucky, Wisconsin and Duke are elite programs with very, VERY good teams.

The right guy

Coaching changes can be difficult — sometimes brutal — if you don’t bring in the right guy.

Greer doesn’t have to worry about that.

The field

Is this Kentucky team the best you’ve ever seen?

I couldn’t help but grin as college basketball analysts dissected the brackets on Sunday, saying the only thing that was guaranteed about this year’s tourney was a UK national championship.

Don’t believe me?

My bracket conundrum

Tis the season for bracket wagers and friendly betting, but if prior years are any indication, I’m just going to be throwing my money away.

I know my college basketball. I keep up with the sport as much as anybody else, so I can’t help but be intrigued by bracket pools when March rolls around.
