Kaelyn's Korner

Weekly column by Kaelyn Pfenning

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

John 1 gives us a beautiful picture of Jesus—who He is and what He has done.

Verses one and two say, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.”

Jesus—fully God and fully man—humbled himself.

Hope in hard times

Sometimes, things fall apart.

Bills, accidents and sicknesses can add up, especially when they all arrive in the same week.

In the midst of trouble, we can look to Jesus for hope.

Days filled with unexpected problems will continue to come as they have for centuries—all the way back to the days of Jesus.

A star

Long ago, some wise men followed a star. Let’s see what happens.

Matthew 2:1-2 says, “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’”

This year, I celebrated Thanksgiving with my immediate family as well as the family of my fiancé, Brad.

Due to my older brother’s family possible being in Vietnam by Christmas to teach English, my family also held our Christmas celebration.

Thank the Lord

A joyful heart is good medicine.

At this time of year, we often hear about giving thanks, but sometimes the Giver is left out of the picture.

James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Humility comes before honor.

On Veteran’s Day last Friday, people around the country showed honor to those who have served in wars fought by our nation.

These men and women shared something in common: humility.

At times, peace can seem very allusive.

With unprecedented elections, rising violence and unpredictable storms, life is so easily thrown out of our control.

It is understandable how we get overwhelmed.

Every season of life brings new challenges along with joys, trials along with adventures and tears along with laughter.

God’s timing is perfect.

My best friend, Brad Cashman, took me to a lookout near Paris Mountain to watch the sunset this past Saturday night.

As we arrived, another couple followed, talking loudly, and mosquitoes surrounded us.

We drove away with Brad noticeably upset and talked briefly about some ideas for the morning.

A simple flower can bring a smile.

Last Wednesday, people across the country handed out flowers as part of the “Petal It Forward” campaign.

Here, in Greer, bouquets of flowers brightened several peoples’ days.

Fall is finally here.

Colorful leaves, hot apple cider and cool mornings are truly a blessing to behold. Hayrides, fall festivals and bonfires draw family and friends together.

Each season holds reasons to give thanks and challenges to cause growth.
